Catalina Peas — feeding fish at Casino Point

May 30, 2026

What a wonderful Saturday afternoon. A slow start while Chris and I arrived before Shiyu and Casper. I liked watching this dog and his owner fill up their tank.

We dove into the water for 3 dives. I was trying out a high pressure steel 100 tank, different from my hp steel 80 tank I usually take. The first dive, I was the navigator for Shiyu and Chris. Our objective was to reach this landmark at Casino Point called the "Swim Platform".

I've never seen it. And I still haven't seen it. In fact, in my confident navigation, I believe I both missed the platform by ~10 degrees relative to the entry point and overshot it by ~50 meters. All we saw was sand lol. It looked like the desert. Then, we saw the bottom of a huge boat, a sure signal that I overshot the platform and we were now outside the park and under the boat parking lot. Oops.

Dives 2 and 3 were way more interesting. Chris gave me the honor of my first underwater fish feeding with frozen peas. I've never heard of this before he mentioned it.

As I entered the water, I already noticed fish were hanging near me. Fascinating how they recognize the peas in the sealed plastic bottle, probably from past divers. When I got down to ~30 ft, I opened the lid and well, take a look:

So fun. Would do again.

Here's some other wonderful pictures Chris took of me:

Diving along a kelp wall surrounded by calico bass and a bright orange garibaldi

Hovering in a kelp forest swarmed by a cloud of fish

Hovering over the sandy bottom flashing a peace sign and holding a dive light

What a lovely day. I'll be back soon.
